I just got accepted into the University of Oregon Business school, and I don’t know which business major I should take. I’m doing a double major, Economics and Business. I completed my Economics already, but I don’t know which business degree is more useful.

Here is the list:
Accouting
Information System Operational Management (DSC)
Marketing
Finance
Entrepreneueship
Sports Business (No.1 in the U.S.)

Please HELP!!!

THANKS!!!

I suggest the most useful major is the one you will most delight in. If you are not pleased with your field, you will not be pleased in life. Find the one that fits you best. Excellent luck.

You either like accounting or you **** it–you need to determine in which camp you fall. I agree, it’s always in demand. I would see if the IS program has excellent job placement before commitment to that. Finance goes well with marketing. Marketing is iffy but also goes with econ (the statistical side will get you further). Entrep is you want to own your own business, but not excellent for job placement esp.

If the sports business concentration is highly ranked, I would strongly consider it. Make sure the alumni are actively involved, and that there are internship opportunities, as that is key to getting excellent placement in this field.

    Awwww….Ducks? Go Beavs!

Anyway, it really depends on what you want to do.

Accounting/Finance/ISOM have the most job security and you can make pretty excellent money in the business world.

With the exception of Finance, but, you’re confined to working for other people in a corp (unless you go private practice in Account).

Marketing jobs are few and far between. So have some brilliant connections and figure on your internships carrying you or not. One of the problems with Marketing, is it’s not terribly useful if you’re not in the Advertising industry.

Finance and Entrepreneur. are excellent for starting your own business. It takes a lot of the dread factor out of small business administration. And as a private business owner, you can either fail or become very very rich.

Sports is a pipe dream. When you look at the number of actual positions out their vs. the number of students, it doesn’t even compare.

But if you went down this road, it would rest on your connections and internships as well. Be prepared to have at least two years worth of internships before you graduate.

An economics and finance degree seem pretty compatible. You can go into the corp sector, the government sector, or the private sector with both those degrees. Accounting is a solid degree as well.

Accounting, finance. Stay close to the money.

Accounting. There is a demand for accountants and finding a job anywhere should not be so hard.

Plus if you get an MBA and CPA your salary as an accountant would nearly double.
