Do you think it’s tacky to send an e-mail out to a list of people to try to market my business?
ByHoping he will bless me with #1 questioned:
I realize that in today’s word it’s called SPAM. I simply copy and paste a list of e-mail address that I obtained from the local Chamber of Commerce directory into the “Bcc” field in my e-mail program and send an my ad (a flyer in PDF format). I do this once a month and send it out to approximately 275 people. This is my second month doing this and so far I have only had two people answer back and question me to remove them from the list. I am assuming some people are just deleting the e-mail without reading it too.

Most people now have spam filters. Most likely, your e-mails go to a junk mail folder automaticallly and eventually get deleted without being read.
if u get work from it does it matter
i would say that it is useless to send it to people because why would they save it??so ya it is ….it ia also very annoying to get emails like that ..
Do what you have to do to make your business successful. If it werent for shameless plugs some of the largest businesses wouldnt be what they are today. GO FOR IT!
If you send unsolicited emails, they are considered Spam and you can lose your business and buy a hefty fine with this marketing technique.
If you have some form of signup for your list, such as a newsletter that people can sign up to receive, then you have legally bought the contacts on that list and can send emails to them.
That sounds like a ‘cold call’ method of advertising, and it’s obvious from the lack of response that it’s not very effective. Personally, I find those types of ads annoying but most I never even see since they go directly into my junk-mail.
When I keep getting unsolicited emails from a particular company over and over I make a point of avoiding doing business with that company. If I have subscribed for these emails, then its acceptable (ex. Amazon).
Most people on your list are either having your emails blocked or they are just ignoring them. Try a more personalised sales approach as opposed to just blasting random people with junk mail; eventually your customers may in fact request that you send them emails and will be more likely to read your flyers.
Yeah, most people will delete. Well, everyone is also used to those emails these days, so it’s not a new thing.
I would suggest, that you first start with family and friends and everyone you personally know. Then question them to forward to anyone they reckon might be interested. This I feel is a better method. You could also advertise in various places through flyers and signage.
It may not be the best approach if what you are trying to sell is a personal service. What I have seen others use to greater effect is the cold call to get an appointment with the choice maker in the target enterprise. I would start with 10 – 20 of the 275 companies. The call could follow this format:
1. Greeting
2. Question for 5 mins of their time
3. Inquire how the business is doing
4. Inquire whether they use the service you are selling
5. Inquire who their current service provider is
6. Make your pitch (better price, better quality, better overall service, quicker turnaround – whatever you believe is your unique selling point)
Do what you have to do as long as it’s not offensive type email; like these people keep sending me up to three emails a day offering me d*ck enhansement pills, and I find this vulgar.
